Saw this on Reddit and just had to share it for Pam!

LOL someone was actually there? Because this seems pretty accurate as to the mindset of Namco. Like seriously who’s bright idea was it to axe separate story modes for the other characters? This series has always had them, like oh lets jump 17 years into the future introduce new characters that may or may not piss people off because we got rid of some old favorites and give them no fucking story what’s so ever.  Ezio was a fine choice, he’s hot and has a sexy stage with awesome music, but that just doesn’t save it I’m sorry lol even fucking Yoda and the Apprentice had a storyline in SC4.

It’s probably the case of “minimal work to maximize profits”. Like most movies now: do as little as possible to earn the max possible. Rather then thinking up new things for characters to do, you know a new and complex story, they just crash it into a pole and get a new one.
Also, Ezio or whatever his name is, Darth Vadar, and Yoda suck compared to Link as a bonus character.

Ok that’s fine most people don’t play fighting games for the story anyway(I do) but come on, the only thing keeping me playing it atm is the character creator, which in itself reaks of the dreaded “casual single player experience”, but you couldn’t at least draw up some fucking pictures and add a short narrative detailing what these characters are about and why they’re fighting? I don’t care how hardcrore you think you are that’s always been a staple of fighting games, so it doesn’t even make any sense.
As for Ezio well I have no beef with him he’s fun to play with, and isn’t a cheap fucking bastard like The Apprentice was in 4, plus he actually kinda fits with the timeline. Yoda and Darth only sucked because they really just didn’t fit and Yoda was just way to small to fight fairly. I never played SC on the GameCube so I don’t really know about Link *shrug*

I totally play fighting games for the story, well okay, partly for the story. Guilty Gear’s was fucking epic. Fatal Fury’s was nice too. For your average fighting game, it probably doesn’t matter though, but Soul Calibur’s start phrase is (in full booming voice) “TRANSCENDING HISTORY AND THE WORLD A TALE OF SOULS AND SWORDS ETERNALLY RETOLD”, so lack of a story kinda makes it just seem lazy. If they didn’t even give the characters text blurbs and art scenes…that’s just fucking stupid.
I remember SC3’s character creator, it was nice though it was limited, I’m guessing they’ve made it a hell of a lot better. At least that’d be fun.
Link was a low tier character, which for him in a fighting game is pretty normal for him. He had lots of sword moves, but also had the boomerang, bombs, and bow ‘n’ arrow. His weapon unlocks were all obscure references to past Zelda game weapons.
